Exiting

Right now everything is coming full circle. I'm in my last semester as an undergrad painting major. I have my own studio space to work in...where I will be producing my last masterpieces. haha.

I just started looking up Rites of Passages. Whether it's a first haircut, circumcision, or even the act of ingesting other mens semen (Papau New Guinea y'all) Barf. All these things show social hierarchies, values, and beliefs. A Coming of Age.

My Coming of Age/Painter is about to happen. Ok. It's not as extreme...but it's still a big deal. I hope to come out feeling proud of myself. Here is how it's been so far.


So this is my little studio space. It's square like and adorable. Most people who enter comment on how 'homey' it is. :)

For my canvases I bought and built my frames then stretched the canvas...and got a big ol' blister. This is only half of them. In total there will be six 6x2ft panels.

This is all 3 of em gessoed. Took me a little over 2 hours. 3 coats each.

This is after my first go at em. It started out a little rough with the yellow outlines. Then I went back in with vine charcoal and reworked the lines.

And this is how they stand today. I started painting on them and haven't gone back yet in a bout a week. It's gonna be a slow process. But I've got til April 23....the day after my birthday. I'm going to be a mad woman that week. I can see it now.

I'm going to try and update on the progress. I did buy a nice sketchbook to use for this 'journey' but have FAILED miserably in using it. :( It's ok.

New Year

So we have entered into the year 2010. So far I have lost and found my wallet. Dropped a decorative plate that belonged to my mother. Locked my keys in my car (which I also washed for the second time in 6 years. You're welcome Rhonda). I've already had some good and bad luck. Happy new year to meeee!!

It was a fun New Years Eve, and it was a little different but we had fun. :)

I don't have much else to say but lets hope for a wonderful productive year.

I know all yous guys were dying to see my Christmas outfit.... So here it is. This isn't the complete outfit. There is no photo proof of the whole thing. But I think this should satisfy. :)




When there's no school and no work....there's a very sad Erika.

Don't get me wrong. I rejoice when I have no work and school. But I weep louder when I have nothing else to do. I've already read the book I brought for the week and now I have nothing else to do. I need to figure out what to do for my exit show. Like what I want my final paintings to be. HELPPPPPP.

Went to see my dad's aunt this past weekend. She's a little feisty one. I like her attitude...actually, I lie. She's funny. But I bet she'd be super annoying to ALWAYS be around. Complaining about everything. Never being satisfied. She's cute..but no thank you. :) I hope she lives a long, peaceful, enjoyable life.

Scrooge

Yesterday:

Went to do my sister a favor at her school and basically got treated like shitake. Seriously. This woman was a snitch. The way she treated me was equivalent to how bad she looked. Which was REAL bad. What comes around goes around.

Today(Christmas eve):

Went all day with out food which put me in supa bad mood. AND then I have a sibling ADDICTED to her iPhone. It's disgusting. I hate it. I hate iPhone. They equal a selfish society. It really makes me ill how it's stuck to her hand. I just wanna throw it away. Oh materialism. I despise you.

BUT. I enjoy this time of year. For me, it's like at any moment I'm prone to cry. I start thinking about being together and enjoying each other and tears just wanna sprout out my eyeballs. This usually stops when one of my siblings says things like 'I can't wait for Christmas to be over. I'm just not a Christmas kinda person.' YES. She really said that! Sad. But overall. It's been a good day. I dressed up in my Christmas outfit. I'm going to wear it again tomorrow. :)

12 hrs

So my shift at the good ol' Cup today was suppose to be only 7 hours. But I wanted to do a good deed today....So I took a co-workers close shift. My little shift then became a big shift. 12 hrs. yippee. And I conquered it with a big smile on my face. I mean seriously. What else would I have done. Just gone to the lonely apartment and sat there. NO THANK YOU. This book here got me through. :)

.......Seriously. Best. Book. Ever. I mean it's romantic and just beautiful. And it's based off of the book of Hosea. It's about God's unconditional love. It's one of those stories you wish never ended. And It a must for any female to read.....so go get it and READ!

At first glance I just was like 'oh'.....but then I kept staring at it and was in awe. This is beautiful. It's done so elegantly. It's mesmorizing! Seriously. In love. It reminds me of John Powers work. ( John-powers.com )

He simplifies things. Breaks them down. Makes them mechanical and ultimately beatuiful. My all time favorite piece by him is 'Field of Reeds'. I'm pretty sure I stood in front of this thing for 10-15 mins. Had I been by myself I might have stood there forever. I recommend going to his site and looking at his other work. I believe most of his stuff is shown as a video...sounds plays a big part in his pieces. :) enjoy!

Argh.

So I planned on not blogging. And then I went to comment on a friends blog and my face and 'blog' is plastered under his post. I feel guilty. I can't direct people to an empty page (assuming someone wanted to direct themself to me).
